Want to know how to deal with burnout in 2022? Burnout can sneak up on you if you burn both ends of the candle for too long. It’s important to note that burnout is different to stress. If you are stressed, a vacation, self-care or down time is usually a pretty great cure.
Burnout is a form of deep fatigue that isn’t often curable by resting. This permanent state of exhaustion can have ripple effects such as;
- Negative assessment of our accomplishments
- Negativity evaluating your skillset
- Feelings of resentment about the people you work with
When we are in a state of burnout, we may also experience brain fog and an inability to concentrate.
Burnout may also peak in the form of a nervous breakdown, rendering you unable to work.
According to the latest research:
- 79% of employees had experienced work-related stress in the month prior to their survey
- nearly 3 in 5 employees reported negative impacts of work-related stress, including lack of interest, motivation, or energy at work
- 36% reported cognitive weariness
- 32% reported emotional exhaustion, and;
- 44% reported physical fatigue, which is a 38% increase since 2019
How do we avoid burnout in 2022?
To help avoid burnout it is important to set boundaries in 2022.
Prioritise Self-care
Find out what re-energises you. It could be an exercise class, going for a walk or reading a book. Find out what works best for you.
Find Balance
If you are on your feet all day at work, your rest time should be quiet and still. Our resting behaviours should be different from what we do at work.
Take micro breaks
The latest research shows that micro-breaks of five or 10 minutes are the ticket to self-care throughout the day. Get up, look out a window, get a snack, step outside.
Ask for help
If you can’t seem to keep your head above water, speak to a professional to help set in motion a self-care plan.
