You’ve made it to the interview selection but there are hundreds of applicants! Apart from doing your best in the interview, what can you do to help you to stand out from the crowd?
Most people go into their interview with the wrong mindset. It’s not about your skills (you’ve already been selected for that) and it’s not about your qualifications. It’s about making yourself memorable!
Master your story and how you tell it
This is the most important. Study the best ways to tell a memorable story and practice in the mirror.
Story telling is a great marketing tool and you are effectively marketing yourself. It is powerful because it creates an emotional connection between yourself and the interviewer. This helps to increase engagement, thus, making your more memorable.
Learn everything you can about the company
Start with their web page. Go through their history and memorise the key points. Don’t forget to google them to see what comes up, check out their LinkedIn and socials. This will show them that you are genuinely interested. Go as far as to tell them the three best things you learnt about them.
Always rehearse your answer to this specific question
“Tell me why you’re the best candidate for the role.”
This is almost always asked so prepare yourself. This is another part of your interview that you have the opportunity to make yourself more memorable. Don’t just play it safe and say you are driven and hard working.
What makes you unique! Have a think about it and rehearse your answer so you don’t forget or feel like you have been put on the spot (and answer generically).
