NRW Holdings has secured contracts valued at approximately $240 million to perform various civil works at major mining sites.
Rio Tinto
NRW Holdings will undertake civil construction at Rio Tinto’s West Angelas iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The project involves developing the A West 1, A West 2, and A West 3 deposits, enabling mining operations to start in 2026.
Key tasks include:
– Upgrading the main heavy vehicle (HV) road from a single lane maintenance access road to a dual lane HV haul road compliant with autonomous haulage systems, linking A West and Hub A.
– Constructing new HV ramps and access routes to waste dumps, mining pits, hydrated waste dumps, and the HV park-up facility.
– Expanding the light vehicle (LV) road network to interface with existing Hub A and Hub-CD road networks.
– Building surface water management structures, such as pit diversion drains.
The project will involve 120 NRW Civil personnel using approximately 65 pieces of plant and equipment. Completion is expected by November 2025.
Additionally, NRW Civil will execute the first phase of bulk earthworks and civil construction for Rio Tinto’s coastal water supply project. This includes constructing roads, pads, ancillary earthworks, and ground improvements for a seawater desalination plant at Parker Point, Dampier, WA. This phase will be carried out by 30 NRW Civil personnel, with completion anticipated by January 2025.
BHP
NRW Holdings subsidiary Golding Civil will perform civil construction at BHP Mitsubishi Alliance’s Saraji metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin, Queensland. The contract includes excavating about one million cubic meters of bulk material, executing 200,000 cubic meters of general backfill, and completing 400,000 square meters of environmental rehabilitation. Additional tasks include constructing a new levee, access road, and other minor works. The project will employ approximately 90 Golding Civil personnel, with completion scheduled for December 2024.
Lynas Rare Earths
