Hancock Prospecting Unites Roy Hill and Atlas Iron as Hancock Iron Ore

Hancock Prospecting has announced a major operational change by merging two of Western Australia’s iron ore leaders, Roy Hill and Atlas Iron. Starting July 1, the two companies will operate under a single brand: Hancock Iron Ore.

Combining Strengths of WA’s Iron Ore Giants

Roy Hill is a prominent iron ore miner in Australia, shipping over 64 million tonnes annually to international steelmaking markets. The company employs more than 2,800 workers, making it a significant employer in WA.

Atlas Iron, acquired by Hancock Prospecting in 2018, has rapidly grown its operations. It currently mines and exports more than 10 million tonnes of iron ore each year.

Together, Roy Hill and Atlas Iron have contributed over $11.5 billion in royalties and taxes to the Western Australian Government, supporting numerous local businesses and communities.

Building on a Legacy of Excellence

Dr Gina Rinehart, Executive Chairwoman of Hancock Prospecting, emphasises that the merger goes beyond a simple rebrand. She states,
“We are building on the exceptional legacy and remarkable achievements of all at Roy Hill, Atlas Iron and Hancock.”

Both companies have earned prestigious awards for operational excellence, safety standards, and innovation, including the application of artificial intelligence technologies. These accomplishments set high standards for the mining industry.

Reaching New Milestones in Iron Ore Export

Hancock Iron Ore is approaching a significant milestone of shipping 500 million tonnes of iron ore to global markets. This achievement highlights the company’s leading position in the iron ore industry.

Gerhard Veldsman, Chief Executive of Hancock Iron Ore, notes the evolving landscape of iron ore mining and the company’s response:

“Atlas Iron and Roy Hill are joining forces to become Hancock Iron Ore — bringing together our experience and combined strengths, and continuing to support many small, medium and larger businesses in WA and across Australia.”

New Headquarters Planned in West Perth

To accommodate the merged operations, Hancock Iron Ore plans to establish a new headquarters in West Perth. The company expects to occupy the new office by 2026.

Continuity of Operations and Partnerships

The rebranding will not impact any existing contracts with customers, vendors, or partners. Both Roy Hill and Atlas Iron will continue to operate under their current trading entities, ensuring seamless business operations.
